Giclée Printing...What is it?

Giclée printing is a printmaking process that uses a large format digital printer. Millions of minute dots of ink are "sprayed" onto various materials. This process produces subtle tonalities that result in high quality fine art prints. Recent advancements in ink technologies allow for prints with vibrant, faithful colors which are protected against fading for up to 200 years. Use of high quality acid free printing paper further enhance the archival benefits offered by Giclée printing. Modern Giclée prints will out last any conventional color darkroom print.

A word on Giclée Printing Quoted from Decor - the business magazine of fine art and framing, May addition:

"…Because they are not produced at once on high-speed press, giclée images do not fit the traditional definition of 'reproductions' " Chappell Hagan says. "The giclée process lends itself to personal involvement on the part of the artist, including embellishing work done after the image is produced. It requires more time, care and supervision to bring a giclée pieces out of the production process."

"…it is becoming more important for dealers to distinguish between limited editions done with the giclée process and limited edition reproductions produced by offset lithography…."

"…. the precision of computer technology really allows the artist's original intent, as well as the image's true details and colors, to come through."
