Locations - Portfolio 2 - "High Country"

S. Fk. American River  "Mountain Dogwood". Taken on the South Fork of the American River near "Twin Bridges". The red tree in the foreground is a Mountain Dogwood. One of the only trees in the Sierra to turn red in the fall.
Summit at Sunset  "Summit at Sunset". Taken in the Grouse Lakes region of the South Yuba High Country. The rocks in the image are actually somewhat red in color. They were being illuminated by a brilliant orange sunset that enhances the natural reds.
Mt Morison  "Mt. Morison". Grand Teton N.P. This is the northern most of the "major" Peaks of the Teton Range. The Snake River is in the foreground. I like this image more than any I have taken of the more famous Grand Teton.
McGee Canyon  "McGee Canyon". This Canyon is found on the Eastern slopes of the Sierra Nevada Range just south of the Mammoth Lakes Resort area.
Aspens and Sugar Pine  "Aspens and Sugar Pine". Taken at the height of the fall color season on the East slope of the Sierra Nevada Range. The aspen is the most common deciduous tree in the west.
McGee Creek  "McGee Creek". This image was made where McGee Creek cuts through the terminal moraine left be glaciers during the last Ice Age. Lake Crowley and the White Mountains are seen in the background.
Purski Pk.  "Purski Peak". This is the "signature" Peak of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness outside Seattle Washington. This Peak has a long climbing history with several classic routes up it. The clouds in the background are the first signs of an approching storm. It was snowing hard one hour after this picture was taken. The Yelloworange trees are Larch. The only deciduous pine tree I have seen. The Trees actually turn colors and loose their needles each fall.
Aspens  This image was also taken on the East slope of the Sierra Nevada. I was attracted to the colorful bands of rock in the background. These are metamorphic layers of old sea floor sediments pushed to vertcal when the Sierras were formed.
Echo Peaks  "Echo Peaks" Taken in the Yosemite backcountry near Tuolumne Meadows.
Yuba   This Panorama is a combination of two 6x7cm transparencies. It was shot on the rim of the South Yuba Canyon around the 5,500-foot elevation. The distant mountain on the left is "Old Man Mountain" and the other peak is "Signal Peak".
Copper Birch  "Copper Birch". Taken on the shore of Convict Lake in the Eastern Sierra just south of Mammoth Lakes. This rare variety of birch is named for it's copper colored bark.
Mathes Crest  "Mathes Crest". Take from Mathes Lake deep in the Yosemite Backcountry. This is the most striking view of this beautiful ridge. The ridge can be traversed from south to north for a full day of climbing at the 5.6 level. I highly recommend it.
