Text Box: Sacramento Soldiers’ Angels Receives $2500 Donation Charlie Brown’s ‘Promises Kept Veterans Charity Challenge’ by L. Stanley— March 24, 2008

On Thursday, March 20th, 4th District Congressional Candidate Charlie Brown presented donations totaling $17,500 to three area veteran's service providers---the Gathering Inn, Francis House, and Soldiers Angels. 

 

Back in September, Brown, who served for 26 years in the Air Force, committed 5% of every dollar raised by his campaign to organizations serving veterans and families in need---through a program called the "Promises Kept Veterans Charity Challenge."   He has challenged all other candidates to match this commitment. 

 

Brown's Promises Kept Challenge is designed to highlight and provide financial support to community based organizations providing outreach and service delivery to veterans and families most in need.  Brown invited the community to determine the organizations receiving awards-through a poll conducted on his website last month.  More than 2,000 people participated in the online voting.

 

Soldiers’ Angels received $2,500 as the third place winner and will put that money to good use.  The first $1,000 will go to fund 6 months of free coffee for the Veterans at the Martinez VA.  The second $1,000 will help purchase food for the Welcome Home OIF/OEF 2008 celebration at Mather Field in May.  And the remaining $500 will go to purchase Vet Packs for distribution to our local heroes.
