The Baby Prince

What does a Tough Costumer do when she finds out she's going to have a baby? My first stop was the library, and the second was the fabric store. Nine months later, I had Jamie and he had this costume.

The robe is made of ivory brocade, slashed in an allover herringbone pattern to show the red silk lining. It is trimmed and banded with gold lace laid over garnet velvet ribbon, embellished with clusters of ruby glass stones and pearls.

The upper fronts and backs had vertical tucks, concealed by bands of trim, which were released later for grow room. The gown now fits a three year old (pictures coming soon)

The sleeves are linen, with blackwork embroidery embellished with gold thread and ruby glass jewels.

The undergown is ivory bastiste, with a square yoke and trim contrived from the borders of a set of square doilies. The lace looks like needle lace, and was further embellished with gold machine embroidery.

The costume is accesorized with a coif of the same lace as that trimming the undergown, a flat cap of the robe fabric, and a ruff made of handmade vintage bobbin lace.
