| Irish costumes, embellished with one of
my trademarks: ordinary knitting yarn, treated as trim
and couched on by machine, using a cording foot. These costumes reflect one of the great costume myths of the 20th century, that Leines (the shirtlike garment) had huge baggy sleeves, gathered or pleated along the top of the arms. Nope, it didn't happen...but it sure is a great look. The lady's overdress reflects one of the reasons not to buy bargain fabrics. It was originally a deep green, but it faded until it nearly matched its own trim. |
